Dr Roger Yap

Career 
Yap started work in 1977. He has held positions in these industries: sales rep: below-the-line advertising; sales manager: direct-selling of consumer goods; export executive: manufacturing of industrial products; marketing manager: industrial wholesaling and retailing; marketing consultant: tertiary education and corporate training; director of marketing: college; director of international office: college; chief operating officer: college branch campus; senior director: national, international, communications, counseling, and corporate training departments: college; and vice president–business development: college. 

For business and market developments, he has traveled to these countries: China, Indonesia, Japan, Maldives, Mauritius, Myanmar, Oman, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam. During employment, he has held appointed positions of: editor (in-house newsletter–manufacturing); member (quality control and assessment council–college); and senate member (college). 

Corporate Learning/Training & Business Consultancy
From 1983 to current, around 500 participants and in-house personnel from Iranian and Malaysian corporations have attended Yap's seminars and workshops organized by training providers. These modules were conducted: selling techniques, sales management, customer care (Kaizen Approach), strategic market plan, strategic management, time (self) management, blue ocean strategy, and business planning. 

Currently, Yap is ABE Malaysia Representative.

Adjunct Lecturer, Tutor, and Thesis Adviser 
From 1983 until 2014 and 2019, more than 3,000 adult learners from China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nigeria, Swaziland, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Yemen, and Zimbabwe had attended his lectures organized by Malaysian colleges and training providers. He has taught at the certificate to the MBA level. Yap has tutored MBA candidates (thesis-writing), and an adviser for a doctoral candidate (oral defense). Predominantly right-brained, he uses Baroque music and mind-mapping in the classrooms to enhance the learning environment.

Notes: The MSc dissertation was based on a strategic market plan of a college (today, a university). The EdD dissertation was based on the teaching and learning philosophies of: pedagogy (teacher-directed), and andragogy (self-directed) of the Malaysian adult learners.
